Everyone knows that paper is easily softened by water, so there is doubt about whether paperboard fiber drums can be waterproof. In fact, if you have heard of the oil-paper umbrellas in ancient China, you would know that paper can be waterproof. Now let's talk about why paperboard fiber drums can be waterproof.
In the quality inspection requirements for cardboard drum exports, it is clearly stipulated that the drum body should be smooth without mechanical damage, wrinkles, or glue separation, and the waterproof paint should be evenly applied without any missed areas, bubbles, or significant sagging. From this, we can see that the surface of the cardboard drum is coated with waterproof paint. This waterproof paint is not only to prevent the cardboard drum from getting wet by rain but also to ensure that the paint on the drum does not wash off in rainy conditions. The underlying assumption here is that the cardboard drum can withstand the test of rain.
With the development of technology, research on paper products has become increasingly in-depth, and various paper packaging products have emerged one after another. The body of the cardboard drum is made of eight layers of kraft paper bonded together with polyvinyl alcohol solution. Kraft paper itself has waterproof properties. With eight layers of kraft paper and the protection of waterproof paint, the waterproof function of the cardboard drum is no less than that of other packaging materials, thus meeting the waterproof requirements.
Of course, although paperboard fiber drums can be waterproof, to increase their service life, they should still be stored in a dry and well-ventilated place when not in use, and precautions should be taken against moisture. More importantly, they should be kept away from water.
